PMC Loudspeakers twotwo Sub1 Active Subwoofer Bass Unit

Clean bass superbly utilizing PMC's patented ATL™ technology.

The PMC Loudspeakers twotwo sub1 can be used in a 2.1 configuration with twotwo series monitors to gain extra bass extension and headroom. Alternatively, it can be used to reproduce a low frequency effects (LFE) channel in a surround monitoring system.

The electronics include an audiophile Class-D power amplifier with DSP-based filtering and bass management functions. Balanced stereo analogue and AES3 digital inputs are accepted, and are combined to feed the subwoofer system, as well as being passed through to the analogue and digital outputs for connection with other devices.

The twotwo sub1 is an ultra-low distortion, active subwoofer. Call or chat with a RSPE representative today.

PMC Loudspeakers twotwo Sub2 Active Subwoofer Bass Unit

Clean bass superbly utilizing PMC's patented ATL™ technology.

The PMC Loudspeakers twotwo sub2 is a rigid, highly braced low-resonance cabinet, it delivers greater headroom and a more extensive dynamic response than the existing twotwo sub1. The sub2 can be deployed in a 2.1 configuration with twotwos for effortlessly extended sub-bass, or to reproduce the LFE channel in surround setups, and is ideal where midfield performance levels are required in confined spaces, such as broadcast or post-production environments. Featuring PMC’s unique ATL™ bass-loading technology, and DSP-based filtering and bass management to extend bass output with negligible harmonic distortion, this is a sub with 400W of built-in Class-D amplification, producing controlled, reference-quality sound over a dynamic range from whisper-quiet to levels you feel as well as hear.

The long-throw bass driver - a flat piston composed of a carbon-fibre/Nomex® sandwich - is a bespoke PMC design that delivers an unparalleled transient response and potent performance for the speaker’s size when combined with the Advanced Transmission Line.

As well as the great sound and specification, there are a number of useful design features. Analogue and AES3 digital inputs are included, the latter accepting digital signals at sample rates from 32 to 192kHz.

Switching between the sources is carried out from the rear panel or the optional rc1 remote. A single parametric EQ is provided to assist with in-room alignment, and the digital input is also passed through to the sub’s analogue and digital outputs, allowing sub2 to be used as a high-end digital-to-analogue converter if required.

The twotwo sub2 is an active subwoofer for PMC’s twotwo range of nearfield monitors. Call or chat with a RSPE representative today.

A Highly affordable premium Near-field Monitor, 2-way monitor with 5” woofer and ADAM's famous ribbon tweeter

The ADAM T5V is a highly affordable two-way nearfield monitor and optimized for small control rooms. T5V features a 5” woofer and the bass-frequency response extends to 45 Hz. The new U-ART tweeter, a breakthrough solution for use in high-resolution recording and mixing on a budget, goes up to 25 kHz and is mated to a precision waveguide with the same dispersion-control attributes as the High Frequency Propagation (HPS) waveguide used in ADAM Audio’s flagship S Series monitors. A beveled cabinet with a rear-firing bass reflex port and a small footprint allows placement anywhere in your room, no matter how small, and contains built-in DSP-controlled driver crossovers and equalization as well as multi-way analog connections. Powered with a 50 W Class D amplifier for the woofer and a 20 W Class D amplifier for the U-ART tweeter, the T5V produces SPLs of up to 106 dB per pair.

ADAM Audio T7V Active Nearfield Studio Monitor Speaker

A Highly affordable premium Near-field Monitor, 2-way monitor with 7” woofer and ADAM's famous ribbon tweeter

The ADAM T7V is a two-way studio monitor designed for vertical use in a nearfield application. The T7V features a 7” woofer that provides bass extension down to 39 Hz, while the U-ART tweeter’s diaphragm provides pristine and extended high-frequency response up to 25 kHz – virtually unheard of in monitors in this price range. The U-ART tweeter is fitted to a precision waveguide with the same dispersion-control attributes as the High Frequency Propagation (HPS) waveguide used in ADAM Audio’s flagship S Series studio monitors. The waveguide’s highly uniform dispersion of high frequencies provides an incredibly wide sweet spot that frees you from being glued to a rigid mix position while working.

Focal Alpha 50 Near-Field Studio Monitor ADAM A3X Active Nearfield Studio Monitor Speaker FocalCare for Focal SM9 Professional Studio Monitor
Focal Alpha 50 Near-Field Studio Monitor
LIST: $349.00
PRICE: $299.00

Focal Alpha 50 — 2-Way Studio Monitor

Affordable, high-quality bi-amped monitor with 5" woofer, dual bal/unbal connectivity, and Focal’s patented inverted-dome tweeter and Polyglass LF driver

The affordable Alpha 50 studio monitor brings Focal professional’s unique brand of high-performance audio reproduction to anyone who desires it. The Alpha 50 is specifically designed for home studio recordists, producers of electronica, and DJs. Among the unique features of the Alpha 50 powered monitor are simultaneous XLR and RCA inputs that allow you to use up to two sound sources at once, thereby eliminating the need for a monitor controller. Along with high- and low-frequency shelving EQ, the Alpha 50 has an easy-to-reach, rear-panel Sensitivity switch for higher SPL from low-output sources, plus automatic +4dBv or -10dBu operation or both, depending on input connector(s) used. The Focal Alpha 50 also has a power-saving auto-standby mode that puts the monitor to sleep after 30 minutes of no signal. Most importantly, the Alpha 50 gives you uncolored neutral response across the entire frequency range, plus the accuracy and spatial detail that Focal monitors are famous for.

Focal Alpha 50 unique features:

  • Inverted dome tweeter for width, depth, and soundstage accuracy
  • Proprietary Polyglass driver offers neutral sound, prevents distortion
  • Connect up to 2 simultaneous audio sources
  • Simultaneous balanced and unbalanced input operation
  • Automatic standby saves power
  • 0dB to +6dB sensitivity switch adds SPL to low-output devices

Focal Alpha 50 key features:

  • Low directivity: keeps the same sound throughout the roo
  • Damping and rigidity: neutrality, no distortion
  • Tonal balance is identical at low and high volumes
  • Front-facing bass ports allow placement close to wall
  • Optimal acoustic integration via LF and HF shelving EQ
  • Reduced power consumption
  • Balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA inputs
  • HF boost/cut: ±6dB; LF boost/cut: ±3dB
  • 25W HF, 30W LF Class AB bi-amplification
  • 5" woofer

OUTSIDE THE BOX — Focal Alpha 50

Housed in an MDF cabinet, which out-performs the molded plastic commonly found on budget and mid-level powered studio monitors, the Alpha 50’s inverted dome tweeter provides more dispersion than standard designs, which makes speaker placement less critical. As a result, the Alpha 50’s exceptionally wide sweet spot enables you to move around your mixing desk without losing spatial reference and balance. For placement in small rooms, the Alpha 50 cabinet has dual front-facing bass ports, which allows you to place the Alpha 50s close to a wall without unwanted bass boost or cancellation. Another thoughtful feature of the Alpha 50 is its power-saving, automatic standby. After 30 minutes of no signal, the Alpha 50 goes to sleep. To wake it up, all you have to do is run signal through it and you’re ready to resume mixing.

On the rear panel of the Alpha 50 are low-frequency shelving EQ with the ability to boost or cut ±6dB, and high-frequency shelving EQ with ±3dB cut/boost. There are also rear-panel balanced XLR input and unbalanced RCA inputs, Both inputs function simultaneously, with the XLR set for +4dBv operation and RCA set at -10dBu, which means you can play two sound sources without a monitor controller; simply switch on and off at the source. There is also a Sensitivity switch that toggles between 0dB and +6dB for additional SPL—in case your D/A interface or other connected sound source doesn’t output the desired level. This feature enables you to increase headroom without overdriving and clipping your D/A converters, keeping your sound clean. The Sensitivity switch is also placed high up on the rear panel so you can easily reach behind the Alpha 50 and changes settings without disturbing speaker placement.

INSIDE THE BOX — Focal Alpha 50

Rather than using DSP or Class D amplification found in most budget monitors, the Alpha 50 uses Class AB amplifiers with large power supplies for increased dynamic performance and better sound overall. The Alpha 50 bi-amplification sends 25 watts power to the tweeter and 30 watts to the low-frequency driver. If you’re looking for more power and deeper bass, you can go up the Alpha-Series range to the 6.5", 30W/70W Alpha 65, or 8", 40W/100W Alpha 80.

What makes the Focal Alpha 50 sound so good?

It’s been said that if you’re not manufacturing your own LF and HF drivers, then you’re simply in the packing industry, not speaker manufacture. Focal Professional employs several proprietary and patented technologies to ensure world-class performance in each of its monitor lines.

Focal’s unique inverted-dome tweeter

Two of the most difficult things to hear in a mix are compression and reverb tails, but Focal’s proprietary technologies make it easier. The Alpha 50’s innovative inverted-dome tweeter offers unparalleled dynamics, enabling very precise control of compression, while its outstanding spatial precision facilitates accurate assessment of reverb tails and stereo imaging.

The inverted dome accomplishes this by mechanical coupling of voice coil and dome. The voice coil is fixed mid-height on the dome and uniformly moves the entire surface of the cone. The positive dome is only joined at its edge for a flexible surface. The inverted dome directly radiates into the air with maximum efficiency, which results in an extremely precise soundstage. The dome’s response curve is far more linear than that of any positive dome, thus providing better dispersion and very low directivity.

Combining the excellent damping qualities of magnesium with the superior rigidity of aluminum, this unique marriage of metals offers several advantages. To begin with, it greatly reduces distortion, which combats ear fatigue in long mixing sessions. The impulse response of this alloy is incredibly fast with a very short reset time. Those factors combined with excellent damping capability, enabling a frequency response beyond 28kHz (-3dB).

The Focal Alpha 50 tweeter’s ultra-wide and linear frequency response provides greater phase coherency in the audible range, thus producing a more realistic sound; extremely wide soundstage; balanced, neutral sound reproduction; and dynamic, detailed high frequencies. Focal’s aluminum/magnesium inverted dome tweeter combines perfectly with their proprietary Polyglass woofer in perfect tonal synergy.

Focal’s patented Polyglass cone

Focal Professional’s exclusive Polyglass technology found in the Alpha 50, comprises molten glass microballs applied to a cellulose pulp cone. This unique process combines the excellent damping quality of paper with the rigidity of glass. Polyglass’ rigidity index exceeds that of single-skin Kevlar®, and approximately ten times superior to that of polypropylene.

The superior mass/rigidity/damping ratio of Polyglass results in outstanding linearity in frequency response. This linearity provides greatly increased definition in the midrange, resulting in transparent, uncolored sound.

Who’s using Focal Professional Monitors:

Numerous professionals are using Focal monitors for music production, video post, and mastering. Among them are RSPE friends including, musician-producer Dweezil Zappa; renowned Hollywood sound-recording mixer Ron Bartlett (A Good Day to Die Hard, Life of Pi, Prometheus, This Means War, We Bought a Zoo, Pearl Jam Twenty, and many more), and premier Hollywood mixer, Gary Lux (The Jacksons, Frank Sinatra, Rob Thomas, Janet Jackson, Usher, Sting, Norah Jones, Keith Urban, and Rod Stewart).

The Focal Alpha 65 also has a power-saving auto-standby mode that puts the monitor to sleep after 30 minutes of no signal. Most importantly, the Alpha 65 gives you uncolored neutral response across the entire frequency range, plus the accuracy and spatial detail that Focal monitors are famous for.

Focal Alpha 65 unique features:

  • Inverted dome tweeter for width, depth, and soundstage accuracy
  • Proprietary Polyglass driver offers neutral sound, prevents distortion
  • Connect up to 2 simultaneous audio sources
  • Simultaneous balanced and unbalanced input operation
  • Automatic standby saves power
  • 0dB to +6dB sensitivity switch adds SPL to low-output devices

OUTSIDE THE BOX — Focal Alpha 65

Housed in an MDF cabinet, which out-performs the molded plastic commonly found on budget and mid-level powered studio monitors, the Alpha 65’s unique inverted dome tweeter provides more dispersion than standard designs, which makes speaker placement less critical. As a result, the Alpha 65’s exceptionally wide sweet spot enables you to move around your mixing desk without losing spatial reference and balance. For placement in small rooms, the Alpha 65 cabinet has dual front-facing bass ports, which allows you to place the Alpha 65s close to a wall without unwanted bass boost or cancellation. Another thoughtful feature of the Alpha 65 is its power-saving, automatic standby. After 30 minutes of no signal, the Alpha 65 goes to sleep. To wake it up, all you have to do is run signal through it and you’re ready to resume mixing.

On the rear panel of the Alpha 65 are low-frequency shelving EQ with the ability to boost or cut ±6dB, and high-frequency shelving EQ with ±3dB cut/boost. The Sensitivity switch is also placed high up on the rear panel so you can easily reach behind the Alpha 65 and changes settings without disturbing speaker placement.

INSIDE THE BOX — Focal Alpha 65

Rather than using DSP or Class D amplification found in most budget monitors, the Alpha 65 uses Class AB amplifiers with large power supplies for increased dynamic performance and better sound overall. The Alpha 65’s dual amplifiers send 30 watts power to its inverted-dome tweeter and 70 watts to the low-frequency driver. Offering more power and a slightly larger woofer than the 5", 25W/30W Focal Alpha 50, if you’re looking even more power and deeper bass, you can go up the Alpha-Series range to the 8", 40W/100W Alpha 80.

What makes the Focal Alpha 65 sound so good?

It’s been said that if you’re not manufacturing your own LF and HF drivers, then you’re simply in the packing industry, not speaker manufacture. Focal Professional employs several proprietary and patented technologies to ensure world-class performance in each of its monitor lines.

Focal’s unique inverted-dome tweeter

Two of the most difficult things to hear in a mix are compression and reverb tails, but Focal’s proprietary technologies make it easier. The Alpha 65’s innovative inverted-dome tweeter offers unparalleled dynamics, enabling very precise control of compression, while its outstanding spatial precision facilitates accurate assessment of reverb tails and stereo imaging.

The Focal Alpha 65 tweeter’s ultra-wide and linear frequency response provides greater phase coherency in the audible range, thus producing a more realistic sound; extremely wide soundstage; balanced, neutral sound reproduction; and dynamic, detailed high frequencies. Focal’s aluminum/magnesium inverted dome tweeter combines perfectly with their proprietary Polyglass woofer in perfect tonal synergy.

Focal’s patented Polyglass cone

Focal Professional’s exclusive Polyglass technology found in the Alpha 65, comprises molten glass microballs applied to a cellulose pulp cone.

M030 Two way Active Monitor for Music Creation

The Genelec M030 is a compact, two way active monitoring loudspeaker with a 5" woofer and a 1/4" tweeter designed for near field monitoring. The Natural Composite Enclosure™ and the ISS, which greatly reduces power consumption, make the M Series some of the most sustainable loudspeakers ever made.

The Genelec M Series:

Active Two-Way Stereo Monitors for Music Creation
Natural Composite Enclosure™
Our pioneering Natural Composite Enclosure (NCE™) is made from a fully recyclable fibre composite material. Half of this is wood, which has the right acoustical properties to reduce vibrations and deliver exceptional sound quality. Plus the enclosure is manufactured using injection moulding. This allows us to optimize the shape and structural rigidity for high-quality acoustical performance. And we can also maximize the internal volume, something that's vital for achieving high output at low frequencies.

Intelligent Signal Sensing
Our Intelligent Signal Sensing (ISS) feature reduces power consumption to less than 0.5 watts by automatically switching the active monitor to standby when no audio signal has been detected for some time. When it receives an audio signal again, the loudspeaker turns back on. ISS is fully compliant with the latest EU requirements and the ErP 2013 Directive for electronic devices.

Low turbulence reflex port
Uncompressed bass through the new patent pending low turbulence reflex port design, Laminar Integrated Port – LIP

Class D Amplifier
The need to improve energy efficiency has led to the development of switch-mode operated amplifiers in many areas. Gradually this technology has matured also for demanding audio power amplifiers and at Genelec we have chosen to design our own Class D amplifier technology. The M series utilizes these high efficiency, low distortion amplifiers in both channels.

Focal Shape 40 Active Nearfield Studio Monitor

2-way Active Studio Monitor with 4" Flax Cone Woofer and M-shaped Aluminum-magnesium Inverted-dome Tweeter

The Focal Shape 40 is Focal Professional's most compact studio monitor, and the perfect solution for small-space near-field monitoring. These monitors can be used from 23″ away (60cm), and they have astonishingly extended low end frequency response thanks in part to its dual passive radiators. Whether you have a room of less than 107ft2 (10m2), or an installation where compactness is paramount, Shape 40 is the perfect solution.

Shape 40 monitors provide remarkable acoustic transparency along with a wide and extremely precise stereo image. The bass register is articulated and controlled. The lower mid-range and mid-range benefit from extreme neutrality, and without any masking effects, making equalization of these essential registers much easier. Finally, the new tweeter is what’s at the source of the very high definition. It efficiently reveals any hissing, and it’s also very precise in the very high end.

Focal Shape 40 Key Features:

  • Tweeter with very low directivity for a flexible listening position
  • Designed without a port, but with a double passive radiator, allowing it to be placed near a wall.
  • Numerous settings for optimal integration
  • Accurate control, even in the very high end
  • Flax sandwich cone: controlled and articulated bass, natural and detailed lower mid-range and upper mid-range registers.
  • Mounting mechanisms present on the back and underneath the loudspeaker: for installing on a table stand, a microphone stand, the ceiling or a wall (Mounting accessories not supplied).

'M'-shaped aluminum/magnesium inverted dome tweeter

Aluminum has the advantage of having very high rigidity, whereas the combination of addition of magnesium increases the damping of the dome. At the same time, the 'M' shape of the inverted dome has two major advantages. Its directivity is even less that of the inverted dome tweeter, allowing for more flexibility in terms of listening position. Mechanically speaking, the 'M' shape gives the dome much more rigidity, while reducing distortion even more. The Poron® suspension provides a more linear frequency response curve below 6kHz, improving crossover with the woofer. The magnetic component has also been optimized thanks to a voice coil with a Kapton® frame which significantly reduces the Foucault current, and consequently, distortion. Finally, the horn housing the tweeter has been designed to provide equal horizontal and vertical directivity.

4" Flax sandwich cone

Developing speaker driver cone technologies is part of Focal’s core expertise. The Flax sandwich cones used for the woofers on Shape loudspeakers are composed of two materials: glass fibres and flax fibres. A layer of flax fibres is sandwiched between two layers of glass fibres. Glass fibre cones were also used on the 'W' composite sandwich cone of the SM6 and SM9 series, and are revered for their high rigidity considering their light weight.

Dual Passive Radiator

The dual passive radiator on Shape studio monitors solves a common issue encountered with nearfield monitors: to combine a compact design with extended low end frequency response.

Traditionally with dual passive radiators, rocking modes can occur depending on the frequency and the volume. In order to compensate for this phenomenon, two U-shaped surrounds positioned opposite each other join the passive disk to the basket, ensuring perfect symmetry during excursion and incursion. Finally, the very low tuning frequency allows the monitors to be placed very close to a wall.

About Genelec SAM™ Series

Designed to adapt, Genelec’s Smart Active Monitor (SAM™) Compact range draws on a suite of technologies to make the most of all modern acoustic environments.

As studio space becomes limited and listening areas more confined, so recordings are taking place in a wider variety of locations, many with minimal acoustic treatment. The Smart monitors and Smart subwoofers of the Compact Series are designed to adapt and assist.

Controlled by the proprietary Genelec Loudspeaker Manager (GLM™) 2.0 software, SAM Compact systems use ground-breaking AutoCal™ to create an optimised and controlled monitoring environment. After automatic calibration, monitoring set-ups ranging from simple stereo to immersive audio will perform with the consistency upon which you rely, compensating for deficiencies in the listening environment.

Nor are SAM Systems limited to one configuration – thanks to GLM and AutoCal, any number of listening positions can be catered for, with fully recallable settings to suit your needs.

Be Smart – let SAM take on the hard work of system optimisation, so you don’t have to.

Genelec aims to deliver performance-driven, tonally neutral speaker and subwoofer systems for audio professionals and enthusiasts. Call or Chat an RSPE Representative to learn more.
