Mercury Recording Equipment Company is debuting the first of many products in their new Mercury D Series Line. The first is the Mercury D Seres G810 Rack. From the outside, you might think you have seen this product or something similar before but you are in for a surprise. Using 20 years experience custom racking vintage modules with Marquette Audio Labs and nearly 15 years manufacturing Mercury Recording Equipment Co. products, David Marquette and Mercury Recording Equipment Company pulled out all the stops on their new product, the Mercury G810, and completely reinvented the ‘500 Rack’ inside and out.

The Mercury D Series G810 is not just another piece of hardware, but a quantum leap ahead for a Recording Industry format, making the Mercury G810 the new benchmark in ‘500 racks.’ The G810 is the new standard for reliability, stability and performance and allows you as an engineer, as well as all other ‘500 Module’ manufactures, to get the most out of the limited format. The Mercury G810 provides a solid foundation with the best power structure and regulation using our proprietary Mercury Power Regulation Circuit, Mercury Soft Start Circuit along with the robust Mercury PSU-1 Power Supply.

The new Mercury D Series Line will have additional products in the near future for the Mercury D Series G810 Rack. Future Mercury D Series products that will let you get the most out of the modules you already own and have additional features at your fingertips that some module do not have available. As well Mercury will have several Mercury D Series Modules (Classics and New Designs) and Mercury G8 Modules for slots 9 and 10 to improve the flexibility and add additional features to get even more out of your G810 Rack. The debut of the Mercury D Series G810 Rack is just the beginning of a new recording system from Mercury Recording Equipment Co. and Proudly Made in the USA!

Powerful

The Mercury G810 solves the biggest complaint for users of other ‘500 racks’ in the marketplace, Lack of Power, especially when using products that are not built to the specifications of the ‘VPR Alliance’. Those products take / need more then their share of the power to work, which in turn causes problems with all other modules in the rack. This is not an issue with the Mercury D Series G810 Rack. We welcome any ‘500 Module’ to be installed in the Mercury G810 Rack. The Mercury D Series Power Specification is much larger than the maximum spec of the ‘VPR Alliance’. But just providing more power is not good enough for Mercury, we wanted to design a better system overall not just more power. This vision was realized with the Mercury Power Regulation Circuit (PRC). The Mercury PRC is not only in the rack it is on every channel (slot) of the rack offering individual regulation per channel / per module. The Mercury G810 is the first ‘500 Rack’ to have this feature and why we feel this is not only a better rack but a better system overall. The Mercury Power Regulation Circuit allows each channel (slot) to be isolated from the channel (slot or module) next to it or any other channel (slot or module) in the rack, which will protect from faults or emissions from problematic module.

We added more power and the Mercury Power Regulation Circuit, but we did not stop there. We also added the Mercury Soft Start Circuit feature to the Mercury G810 Rack as well. The Mercury Soft Start Circuit allows power to ‘ramp up’ slowly and will gradually and gently apply voltage to your expensive D Series or ‘500 Series’ modules when you power up. This is better for your modules as well it reduces the danger to woofers that could be damaged with ‘turn-on’ thump. It might not be the first thing you think of when buying equipment, but the power for any recording device is the foundation of how it works. In Professional Audio a clean, regulated and abundant power supply affects the headroom of your Preamps, Equalizers and Compressor/Limiters etc... and allows your equipment to simply work better and have more dynamics with more power in reserve. If you have a rack full of 8 or 10 limiters for drums (for example) you are going to hear things distort sooner on peaks if there is not enough power in reserve. We have solved those issues with the Mercury G810, allowing you to concentrate on recording music not calculating the amperage or total power you need for the modules you are using. The Mercury D Series Line will have several choices of power supplies to be able to power a single rack or several. The first is the D Series PSU-1. All Mercury D Series Power Supplies feature Studio Quality, Low Noise, Linear Power designed for Audio.

Rock Solid Construction

The Mercury D Series G810 is simply built like a Tank, with a durable, steel chassis and thick Aluminum Rack Ears. Like all Mercury Recording Equipment Co. products, the Mercury G810 is engineered to be reliable and look good in your Studio but is road worthy and can be used for Live work as as well.

Flexible

On the back panel of the Mercury G810 System II has Gold Pin XLRs (for Channels 9-10 only) and DB25 (DSUB) connectors for Channels 1-8 to give you choices of how you install your system and more the opportunity help you lower the cost for expensive cabling. The Mercury G810 is rack mountable but you can also use as a Table Top Rack as well. The D Series PSU-1 Power supply is also rack mountable or can sit on the tabletop next to the rack or on the floor or in the bottom of your rack. You can also mount two PSU-1 power supplies together as a dual 1U unit to save valuable rack space.

Plenty of Features

The budget-friendly Mercury G810 System II has many features to make your recording experience easier. Missing is the System I's Chain Switch (per channel), which allows simple, convenient, internal signal flow among modules. The System II still has the LINK switch but you only have the ability to link channels sequentially (1-2, 3-4, etc.).

The Future

The Mercury G810 Rack is just the beginning. It is the first part of the Mercury D Series System that will feature Mercury D Series Modules, like Preamps, EQ and Limiters. More, there are new products and problem solving tools for engineers to use to make the gear they already use better. The Mercury G810 has 10 slots, 1-8 are designed for Mercury D Series or any ‘500 Module’ to be installed, and you can also install these on slots 9 and 10 as well. But in the very near future we will have several Mercury G8 Modules for slot 9 and 10 that will let you do things with the G810 Rack to make recording easier and also have choices at your fingertips to make recording easier.
