The Focal Alpha Twin Evo is an active near-filed studio monitor providing excellent dynamics, neutrality in the tonal balance and amazing dispersion to preserve an identical sound signature across a wide sweet spot. This monitor boasts a 1” (25mm) aluminium tweeter and two 6.5” (16.5cm) woofers with a Slatefiber cone, made in France in the Focal workshops.

Alpha Twin Evo is positioned horizontally; you can choose which speaker driver will produce the midrange frequencies, using a switch located on the rear plate (we recommend you keep the midrange speaker driver on the inside, so to the right for the left loudspeaker, and vice versa).
Alpha Twin Evo boast a new 1/4" (6.35mm) TRS jack input, a disengageable automatic standby mode and inserts for wall mounting. This truly versatile speaker excels with Mixing, Mastering, DJ or Broadcast use. In terms of amplification, the full analog monitors are equipped with two class D amplifiers whose high current capacity allows full control of the signal dynamics. It also allows high volumes to be reached without distortion. Each of the loudspeakers picks up the smallest details in the mix.
The monitors feature a 5/8" (15mm) -thick MDF cabinet, and incorporate internal braces to ensure it is highly robust, even at the highest levels of acoustic pressure. The bass-reflex design has been used to ensure easy acoustic integration in even the most cramped spaces. In terms of aesthetics, the traditional cube monitor shape makes way for rounded contours. The side panels create a robust and modern design which contributes to excellent sound and a unique and harmonious signature across the Focal collections
Two of the most difficult things to hear in a mix are compression and reverb tails, but Focal’s proprietary technologies make it easier. The Alpha 80 Evo’s innovative inverted-dome tweeter offers unparalleled dynamics, enabling very precise control of compression, while its outstanding spatial precision facilitates accurate assessment of reverb tails and stereo imaging.
The inverted dome accomplishes this by mechanical coupling of voice coil and dome. The voice coil is fixed mid-height on the dome and uniformly moves the entire surface of the cone. The positive dome is only joined at its edge for a flexible surface. The inverted dome directly radiates into the air with maximum efficiency, which results in an extremely precise soundstage. The dome’s response curve is far more linear than that of any positive dome, thus providing better dispersion and very low directivity.
Combining the excellent damping qualities of magnesium with the superior rigidity of aluminum, this unique marriage of metals offers several advantages. To begin with, it greatly reduces distortion, which combats ear fatigue in long mixing sessions. The impulse response of this alloy is incredibly fast with a very short reset time. Those factors combined with excellent damping capability, enabling a frequency response beyond 28kHz (-3dB).
The Focal Alpha 80 Evo tweeter’s ultra-wide and linear frequency response provides greater phase coherency in the audible range, thus producing a more realistic sound; extremely wide soundstage; balanced, neutral sound reproduction; and dynamic, detailed high frequencies. Focal’s aluminum/magnesium inverted dome tweeter combines perfectly with their proprietary Polyglass woofer in perfect tonal synergy.
The Slatefiber cone is a composite cone comprising recycled non-woven carbon fibres - Focal is the first brand in the audio field to use recycled carbon fibres in its speaker drivers - and thermoplastic polymer. The combination of these two materials results in excellent acoustic performance, in terms of sound velocity as well as rigidity and damping.
The carbon fibres alone provide an extraordinary rigidity. What’s more, as they all oriented in the same direction, these fibres further increase the speaker driver’s rigidity, and therefore enable more bass to be achieved.
The carbon fibres are therefore aligned, but also non-woven to ensure better damping. Thermoplastic polymer is also located within the fibres to provide the bond between them and increase damping.
During the development phase, special attention was paid to the weight of the cones to optimize sensitivity: the carbon fibres are very light. In addition to rigidity and damping criteria, the Slatefiber cone therefore meets the speaker driver’s lightness requirement.
